What’s the difference between 810nm and 980nm wavelengths?

Many clients ask me this question.
When using an 810 nm wavelength you have a higher absorption rate to hemoglobin and melanin in the skin whereas the 980 nm wavelength you have more absorption to water first. As a result, the 980nm is better for ablation and 810nm is better for coagulation.

But It is hard to tell the difference between the wavelengths clinically, as the absorption differences are very minor.

Diode laser 980nm is suggested for hemorrhoids treatment, as the 980nm wavelength is equally absorbed by water and hemoglobin, so it can conduct the surgery with pinpoint accuracy and enjoy a very good haemostasis. Compare to other treatment option, the diode laser surgery has less pain and bleeding, allow quick healing of piles, and minimal recurrence.

VELAS 1470nm laser is indicated for the treatment of internal and external saphenous and collateral veins, on an outpatient basis. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and consists of introducing a very thin flexible laser fiber through a very small incision (2 -3 mm into the damaged vein. Fiber is guided under ecodoppler, until it reaches the optimum position for treatment.
Once the fiber is located, the VELAS laser is activated, delivering energy pulses of 4 -5 seconds, while the fiber begins to slowly pull out. Applied laser energy makes the treated varicose vein to retract, occluding it at each energy pulse.
