Laser Classification

●Gas laser:  The common is CO2, He-Ne laser,Ar + (Er).
●Solid-state laser: ruby laser, neodymium glass laser, Nd and YAG laser.
●Liquid laser: organic dye laser.
●Semiconductor laser: gallium arsenide semiconductor laser, diode.

Four characteristics of laser

Four characteristics of laser

Along a straight line rather than divergence
-High brightness
In the high concentration of space and time, it can get very high energy from the unit area and time.
-High security
The spectral width is very narrow and the color is very pure. It is divided into infrared light and ultraviolet which is called common light.
-High coherence
The same frequency, and the vibration direction of the same two wave has a phase constant encounter department. Laser can  maintain a constant phase difference time.

What's TURP?

Transurethral resection of the prostate (commonly known as a TURP, plural TURPs, and rarely as a transurethral prostatic resection, TUPR) is a urological operation. It is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). As the name indicates, it is performed by visualising the prostate through the urethra and removing tissue by electrocautery or sharp dissection. This is considered the most effective treatment for BPH. This procedure is done with spinal or general anaesthetic. A triple lumen catheteris inserted through the urethra to irrigate and drain the bladder after the surgical procedure is complete.

  • TURP is a procedure that can treat men who have an enlarged prostate.
  • A heated wire is used to cut out the middle of your prostate.
  • You will usually need to stay in hospital for a couple of days.
  • It can take up to four weeks to fully recover from the procedure.

What power is most suitable for ENT laser surgery?

30w 980nm diode laser is optimal for ENT surgery, it is powerful enough for you to provide your patients with all the benefits of laser-assisted surgery, you can conduct an excellent section on the soft tissue with power 5-10w, and a good vaporization with power  10-15w for vascularised soft tissue and 15-25w for bony tissue.

Fungal Nail Treatment--Traditional treatment VS Laser treatment

Fungal Nail Treatment

Traditional Treatments

There are several treatments for nail fungus (onychomycosis). The most conservative is to just thin down the nail every 6-8 weeks and apply topical medications but this type of medicine does not work well if the whole nail is involved. Oral medications (Lamasil) can be prescribed but elevates liver enzymes and can cause liver damage. Women are warned not to take oral medications if they are going to become pregnant.

Laser Treatment of Nail Fungus

Laser therapy now has a safe, fast and effective way to manage toenail fungus or onychomycosis as it is known in the medical world. We are one of only a few practices in Newcastle that has a 1064nm laser for treatment of nail fungus. This laser is the latest and one of the most effective ways to treat this unsightly condition. Unlike other treatment options there are no known side effects.

Recent studies have shown that up to 85% of patients can achieve resolution of their nail fungus after two laser treatments spread out over two months – allowing for 12 months of normal nail growth.

The ability of the 1064 laser energy to gently heat the nail bed makes it ideal for the safe and effective desired result of nail clearing. The effects of 1064 nanometer laser energy on nail fungi are two fold and understood in relation to cellular chemical reactions within fungal cells that are necessary for fungal growth and survival. The photo-thermal effect changes cellular metabolism and at increased temperature (42°C), cell components are damaged and metabolism is altered. Clinicians report a photo-chemical effect that further compromises fungal cell enzymes and proteins. Lipids in cell membranes are changed in structure and their function of protecting and regulating the internal environment of the cell becomes further compromised resulting in fungal death and nail clearance.

ZERONA VS VELAS1210nm

ZERONA VS VELAS1210nm
Zerona is low level laser therapy for fat removal. It offer an option who prefer to avoid invasive procedure.
Zerona is a good way for patients to lose fat without surgery, but It does not replace laser liposuction, the lipolysis has its advantage in effectiveness, better for removing more fat and can be used for facial lift treatment.

Laser Therapy VS LED Therapy

A Comparison
Light Emitting Diode (LED)
LED is a semiconductor device that emits incoherent low intensity light.
LED Clusters
Deliver energy superficially over broader regions.
Laser Light
Delivers photonic energy deeply and specifically
Primary Difference
The main difference is coherency. Laser Light is coherent (“coherent waveform”), which means all the light waves move in phase together in both time and space. A laser has a very tight beam that is strong and concentrated. An LED (“incoherent waveform” ) releases light in many directions; with the result that the light is weak and diffuse
led
LED Devices Are Not Lasers
There are many different configurations of phototherapy instruments in the market, some offering laser output only, some offering only LEDs, and – excluding LEDs that are provided for indication only – other devices combining both lasers and LEDs as active therapeutic components. The two latter types are sometimes deceptively called “laser” with no reference made to other emitter types; this is inaccurate, at best. Often the buyer is unaware of the distinction, thinking they have bought a true laser device.
LED Devices Promoting Laser Clinical Studies
Of the hundreds of referenced and reported clinical and scientific studies and papers available, they are almost exclusively done with Laser Light sources as the medically beneficial light source.
In fact, even on the web sites of the leading LED light devices, the sources and references they list are not for LED therapy, but rather for Laser Light therapy. Manufacturers of such devices as Bioflex, Anodyne and the Dynatron Solaris units, which are LED therapy devices, primarily use Laser Light studies as their medical efficacy support.
A number of studies have been completed that compared the effectiveness of Laser Light to LED light and the majority have found Laser Light to be far more effective, particularly in treating tissue of any significant depth.
While LED light therapy does have some beneficial effect, it is limited to superficial tissue treatment only.
Significant Difference in Biostimulation Effects
The authors of the leading and most widely used laser therapy textbooks are unanimous in their opinion that there are significant differences between Laser Light and LED light and that their respective bio stimulative effects are far from being equal.
The preponderance of opinion is that Laser Light can achieve much greater and deeper stimulative and therapeutically beneficial effect. The following is taken from one of the most respected laser therapy textbooks in use today, “Laser Therapy”, by Turner and Hode.
